Another idea is to reboot your computer.  If the computer is left on for days or weeks at a time temporary files can build up on your hard drive taking up space in your computers memory and causing slowdowns.  By rebooting or even just restarting your computer, you can see increased speed by clearing out those unwanted files.

Verifying your system’s resources is something else to check into when figuring out why your computer is slow.  You must make sure your computer has enough RAM (memory) and hard disk space to support the applications and programs you want to run.  For example, email, games, word processing, and internet access.

You may also want to look at purchasing a program that scans for viruses, Trojans, spyware, and worms.  These invaders use the resources of your computer to cause all kinds of problems one of which is slowing down your pc.  Your protection software must have the ability to check your pc for malicious software.

Regardless of which Windows desktop operating system you use, you much manually defragment or have the computer set-up to automatically defragment.  Performance of the computer is jeopardized when it gets too fragmented.

A registry cleaner is another tip for increasing pc speed.  You can research online the different registry cleaners on the market to find the one that most suits your needs.  The first time a registry cleaner is used, it won’t catch all the errors.  It may take up to 3 times before the errors are gone.

None of these suggestions are foolproof when finding the cause of a slow pc.  However, they are a place to start.   In addition, with so many help on the internet or through the purchase of quality products to help with this problem, with time and some patience, your pc will be back up to speed soon.
